Exploring the customs of the New Year, from Byzantium until today.
Why do we bake a New Year’s lucky pie and what is the flouri? What is mahlab and how does it taste like? How can we create our own trinkets from copper? Why do we hide a golden coin inside the Vasilopita?
In this workshop kids will bake, smell, craft and taste. They will have the chance to explore New Year’s custom of Vasilopita, and the legends around it. A journey from Byzantium to modern Greece.
The team will first bake a traditional pie from Poli, following a traditional recipe, and then will create Byzantine trinkets and treasures to hide inside.
Who will be the lucky ones to find the flouri inside the pie?
